He was in another band, at that point, and apparently they were getting ready to get signed, and his bass player was in an awful car crash and died. Cause Id called Jon to try to put it back together. I didn't have that under my belt. **When you started your solo career, was that the beginning of the end for Journey? It was getting annoying. Because I am gonna get this done, eventually. But I needed to be ready to lay down and do this thing. Eventually he came back. He said he was having health issues, and he needed to have hip replacement, and this and that. The solo is arranged so it's really in-your-face guitar. Waka/ Jawaka was also a jazz album. I just kept my eyes on him all evening. We met in San Rafael, we sat on the edge of the marina, and I just told them, I cant do this anymore. The movie Monster, that Patty Jenkins wrote and directed, with Charlize Theron, was an amazing use of [Dont Stop Believin ]. I couldn't leave the people in my band just to do some wandering around the country, although it would have led to the Led Zeppelin gig, which was offered to me as well. At certain times, I've had a drum lose its tone because it has been dropped and the shell has cracked, or something has gone wrong and it's deader than the other drums and I've had to replace It. I was taken to London by the Mojos. He will just come in with an idea of what he wants to hear, and we'll all work it out. Gene and Paul have to have a drummer that they feel interprets their style.
